Next Match : TBC

Garforth Rangers AFC : 6

Ossett Athletic               : 0

15/03/08 W&DFA League Div 3

Due to a fixture clash on our usual pitch that wasn't discovered until 2 hours before kick off, this match was off and back on again within minutes. When the heavens opened it looked as though our efforts to stage the game were at best questionable, but as the game unfolded any doubts were soon banished as Rangers played perhaps their best football of this season.

Two goals from new boy Helliwell gave the home side a good start and when another young new boy, Hayes, added a third it looked as though we were set for a high score. The addition of quick feet and pace to the experience we already have up front made a great difference to our play and constant pressure on the visitors defence paid off again when Black got a fourth just before half time.

After weathering the expected early second half rally from Ossett, Rangers soon got back on top and though Ossett spurned a few chances and were denied by the woodwork, they cantered home with a classy lob from Bell and a well taken effort from Helliwell to complete the hat trick.

With more fresh young talent to come through the future looks bright for this Rangers side.

Ossett Two Brewers FC : 5

Garforth Rangers AFC  : 1

08/03/08 W&DFA League Div 3

Perhaps we should have seen the writing on the wall when our replacement goalie for this game was injured in the warm up. Despite having a capable deputy in the the versatile Olly Wyatt it meant 4 positional changes with the teams already lined up for the kick off. Fortunately the strong cross wind made it impossible for the hosts to capitalise immediately on our disorganisation and gradually some shape began to emerge from the enforced new line up.

The wind was a constant problem to both sides and a speculative long high ball was the undoing of Rangers defence when they conceded first. When they reached the safety of half-time only 1-0 down Rangers had genuine reason to think they could still get something out of the game.

Two Brewers are a good side and can physically dominate matches if allowed, for long patches of the game Rangers matched them for effort and when they equalised early in the second half it looked like we were in for an exciting game if not one of pretty passing football. Our hopes were dashed almost immediately as the hosts regained the lead.

Despite having a good share of possession Rangers failed to capitalise in front of goal and as their increasing desperation to get back into the game led to a loss of shape, the hosts increased their lead.

At this point Rangers heads visibly went down and when they were forced to make their last substitution because of injury immediately after instigating a tactical change the game was gone. Now without shape and a further injury reducing them to 10 men Ossett were able to increase the score to flattering proportions.

No excuses you have to deal with what's thrown at you. Ossett managed the conditions better and had the pace out wide to exploit the defensive frailties caused by forced re-organisation.

Ossett are this year's champions and deservedly so from what I have seen. Well done lads.

Garforth Rangers AFC : 1

Outwood Victoria FC     : 2

01/03/08 W&DFA League Div 3

For the second week running Rangers were down to only 11 fit players for an important fixture.

The wind played a major part in the game but despite this the two sides competed well and served up a tight, almost entertaining, match.

Outwood had the lion's share of early posession but failed to make any real impact in the Rangers half and the home side looked the more likely to score. When the Outwood defender failed to deal legally with a storming run into the box a penalty was awarded and this was duly converted by David Bell. The lead was short lived and the visitors equalised in their next attack.

Rangers started the second half looking the side most likely to win the game and created a number of chances which on another day, with a bit more luck, would have got them 3 points. It wasn't to be and a defensive mix up allowed the visitors in to take the lead.

Though the referree awarded 1 penalty Rangers should have had 3, they also hit the croosbar twice and a Wyatt free kick narrowly missed curling into the top left hand corner.

I would grudgingly concede a point to Outwood but taking 3 points was riding their luck.

Garforth Rangers AFC : 2

Scissett FC                      : 2

16/02/08 W&DFA League Div 3

Missing the scorers of 4 of last week's 5 goals against Inns of Court, Rangers never looked like troubling the scorers too much.

With at least half the side turning in their worst performances of the season the home side struggled to put passes together and failed to create the number of chances we have come to expect.

Despite all the negatives, Rangers, on paper at least, should have had enough quality to win this game and having gone 2-0 up they had enough experience in the side to hang on to 3 points. Risky passes in dangerous areas contributed to their downfall and and if they had only managed to do the basics well and made their tackles they would have been home and dry.

Goals by Joe Ryan in the first half and Azzer Lee in the second should have been enough but Scissett FC having got back into the game following a penalty had the greater collective desire and deserve a point for their battling qualities. Had Garforth displayed similar battling qualities the game would have been won easily.

Inns of Court FC             : 0

Garforth Rangers AFC : 5

09/02/08 W&DFA League Div 3

Probably the worst game of the season, mainly due to the glue pot pitch, which made passing football practically impossible.

Goals from Askew (3) Broome & Hughes sealed a workmanlike performance and a welcome clean sheet.

Garforth Rangers AFC : 3

Ossett Two Brewers     : 5

02/02/08 W&DFA League Div 3

The home side were left still without a win against top 5 opposition and in truth it never really looked like they could get 3 points from this match against the current leaders. Possibly giving the opposition too much respect, Rangers didn't seem to have the bite in midfield that was required to get a grip on this game.

Though the visitors scored first, Rangers levelled quickly and showed they at least had the capability to score against the visitors previously mean defence.

Going in 2-1 down at the break, Garforth knew they had to score next to get back into the game, but Ossett went 3-1 up and it seemed they had sealed the win.

Defensice shape was sacrificed in the search to get back into the game and Ossett capitalised with breakaway efforts that were well finished though they put a distorted slant on the scoreline.

With substitutions giving the home side greater width they began to expose hitherto undiscovered defensive frailities in the visitors defence and with Phil Sharpe netting a hat trick the scoreline at least reflected the match and left the Ossett side feeling that they had been tested.

Overall it was a better game than the conditions might have allowed on another day and without a dubious penalty award and a missed over the line call the result could have been 3-3. It wasn't and good luck to Ossett who did enough earlier in the game to weather the Garforth fightback and had the players to catch the home side on the break when they were stretched.

We look forward to the return.

 Garforth Rangers AFC : 4

  Duke of Wellington       : 1

Sat 19/01/08 W&DFA League Div 3

Not a brilliant performance from the home side but 3 more points in the bag and a return to top slot, well 2nd on goal difference.

Credit to the visitors for putting up stubborn resistance fort he most part but they were penned in their own half for large parts of the second half and goals had to come.

The visitors also had chances and on another day may have salvaged something but Rangers deserved the points.

Crofton Sports FC res  : 2

Garforth Rangers AFC : 7

Sat 12/01/08 W&DFA League Div 3

Rangers took the lead with their first attack of the game and with less than a minute on the clock. Their domination of possession continued throughout a one-sided first half and they led 5-0 at the break.

Crofton adopted a more physical approach in the second half and managed to contain their visitors for the best part but still went 6-0 down before scoring themselves

Garforth Rangers AFC : 4

Inns of Court                    : 1

Sat 05/01/08 W&DFA League Div 3

With both sides struggling to put sides out, this was never going to be a classic.

Despite starting with only 10 men, the home side enjoyed the bulk of first half posession and once strenghened to a full compliment they took control. A paltry single goal lead was less than they deserved at half time though the visitors spirited effort thwarted them for long spells.

As it was the week before the second half was a different story and Rangers capitalised. Firstly Azzer Lee added to Dave Bell's first half effort and then skipper Joe Ryan's header sealed the win with Azzer adding his second to put a realistic look on the final scoreline.

With 9 games left Rangers find themselves in 5th spot, 4 points off the lead and games against the top 4 still to come. It could still be interesting with 27 points to play for.

Garforth Rangers AFC : 6

Ossett Panthers             : 1

Sat 29/12/07 W&DFA League Div 3

Another match ruined by atrocious weather conditions which made attractive football impossible. Despite this both sides tried to play a bit and tried hard overcome the wind and rain.

The visitors took a lead, profiting from their hosts early defensive uncertainties. Rangers equalised before half time and looked as though they could increase their lead before the break. As it happens it was the first attack of the second half that brought them the lead and Rangers never looked back.

Goals from David Bell (3) Joe Ryan and debutant Phil ( TBC ) sealed a comfortable win.

Goals fromSteve Hood (3), Dave Bell(2), Joe Ryan, Phil Sharpe And Azzer Lee gave Rangers a convincing victory in this second from top versus second from bottom league encounter.

Little Bull FC                : 2

Garforth Rangers AFC : 1

Sat 10/11/07 W&DFA League Div 3

Fielding a stronger side than when these sides met in the first league encounter of the season, Rangers perhaps should have killed the game off in the first half. The fact that they did not, allowed Little back into the game and as happens with 1-0 leads allowed their hosts to claim victory.

Despite a strong first half show Garforth could not capitalise and their mid-field domination was over turned by Little Bull in the second half as they deservedly took the points.

It was not a day for pretty football as the wind carried everything and a srappy game ensued, both sides showed determination but Little Bull wanted it more.

Garforth Rangers AFC : 4

Prostar FC                       : 2

Sat 03/11/07 W&DFA League Div 3

Despite their first half performance being arguably their worst of this season so far, Rangers did enough to take the points against a Prostar side that has improved since we last played them.

It wasn't a brilliant game with far too many mistakes made by both sides to be classed as entertaining and is instantly forgettable hence a brief match report with precious little detail.

It was ironic that results elsewhere on the day should conspire to propel the side back up the league table and set up next Saturday's encounter with Little Bull FC. Both sides are again locked together at the top on the same number of points but with Saturday's opponents enjoying games in hand.
