Review of 2006 – 2007 season.  Garforth Rangers Under – 13’s

As I look back on 2006-7 season.  We began the season with the aftermath of winning the Barkston Ash Cup and coming back down to Earth to concentrate on the League, and we came down to earth with a bump, a heavy loss to the team who was to win our division Beeston, followed by a draw. Unknown to us at the time, one of many draws to plague us throughout the season.

It took a couple of games to register our first win against East Leeds. We had a very good Cup run, both in the Challenge Cup and the Millennium Cup. Cup games seem to bring the best out in this team. In the Millennium Cup we got to the last four in the East Division, being the last team from the Garforth League, an excellent team effort. In the Challenge Cup we reached the semi-final, playing the top of the First Division, Horsforth St Margaret, on what could only be described as a muddy farmer’s pitch.  We started a little slow, in fact we gave them a 3 goal start in the first 15 minutes. However, we did not give up and scored just before the end of the first half, further goals gave us a fighting chance and we got back to 4-3, but with minutes to go we pushed for the draw only to be caught on the counter attack 5-3 the final score. A good hard fought game on what was a difficult pitch.

As for the League, the first win resulted in a 3 match run, and then we narrowly lost against Rothwell Town, only weeks after winning them in the Millennium Cup. Our final position in the Garforth League Second Division was 5th just behind 4th place Rothwell Juniors on the same points just goal difference separating us.  The team lost only four league games and two cup games, which resulted in our best position in the League and is a testament to the growing development of the team.

As for the future, we are taking a group of lads on tour to Holland next Easter. So if you see us packing bags in your local supermarket or selling raffle tickets, please give generously.

Our Presentation Night for 2006/2007 was held in conjunction with a Race Night to help raise funds for our trip to Holland, as you can see from the photos we had a great night.
