GJFL _ 19th September 2010

Our home campaign began under rain clouds and grey skies, but there was only brightness from the performance of Rangers today. Excellent passing and movement contributed to a very competent and pleasing performance. This was etched all over the first goal on 8 minutes when a short goal kick on the left saw Kai & Zach work triangles and involved Regan and Jack as the move progressed up field culminating in a superb shot from the edge of the area by Seb for a 1-0 lead.

Seb doubled his own, and Rangers score to 2 when he scored from a superb high shot from the edge of the area with 17 minutes gone. Seb was again on hand when he played a through ball for Jack to score his first goal on 20 minutes and extend the Rangers lead to 3-0. Regan was again a constant threat to the opposition on the left and on 28 minutes he won a free kick which Seb duly delivered into the box for Regan to stab home Rangers 4th goal after a scramble in the six yard box.

A bright start to the second half from Rangers saw Aaron play an excellent through ball for Jack to run onto and beat the North East Leeds keeper for his second and extended Rangers lead to 5-0 after 49 minutes. Three minutes later and Aaron opened up his account for the season with a clinical finish into the roof of the net following a long dribbling run from Cameron and the lead was 6-0.

On 57 minutes North East Leeds earned themselves some reward for a spirited second half display when they rightly won a penalty and brought the score to 6-1. During the next 7 minutes North East Leeds enjoyed their best spell with two further goals on 62 and 64 minutes to bring the score to 6-3. Rangers picked up their game and were pressing for the remainder of the game with Jack twice seeing goal bound efforts come off the post. On 65 minutes Jack finally completed his hat trick and the last score of the match resulting in a 7-3 home victory.

Every Rangers player played their part in a solid performance today and hopefully this result will provide a springboard to another good season. Well done boys.

Team: Thomas, Cameron, Danny, Kai, Zach, Regan, Aidan, Sebastien, Jordan, Aaron, Jack, Sam, Brandon.

GJFL - 12th September 2010

And so the new season begins on a glorious September morning. And what a great start to the season when after only 2 minutes a fantastic dribbling run from Regan lead to his cutback into the six yard box. The keeper could not hold onto the ball and Seb was on hand to knock it over the line. Gipton worked hard and deserved their equaliser on 19 minutes. Rangers were being put under some pressure and could not hold onto the ball. On 27 minutes Gipton scored a deserved goal and lead 2-1 at half time.

A bright start to the second half from Rangers saw Regan pick up from where he left off in the first half and a mesmerising run drew a free kick for Rangers mid way in the Gipton half of the field. Danny’s free kick was right into the danger area on the edge of the six yard box and Jack rose above the defence to flick on a header into the net and equalise the score. On 40 minutes the referee made his only questionable decision of the game when what looked like a handball by Gipton was ignored and the subsequent tackle was deemed to be punishable by a penalty. Thomas had no chance with the well taken penalty. Gipton extended their lead on 50 minutes but Rangers continued to create chances. On another day Jack would have scored a hat trick but today was not to be. With 10 minutes to go Kyle gave Rangers some hope bringing the score to 3-2 with a strong run and finish.

Unfortunately, time was against Rangers and whilst finishing the stronger team we could take nothing away from a Gipton team who fought hard for their victory on the day. There were some solid performances today and Rangers can definitely take some positives from this game with two chances to avenge this defeat in the next three weeks as we take on Gipton in the cup and the reverse league fixture.

Team: Thomas, Cameron, Danny, Kai, Zach, Regan, Aidan, Sebastien, Jordan, Harrison, Jack, Kyle, Brandon.
