Under 13B Season 2009/2010

Presentation Night 2008 -2009 Season
The new season for the under 13 (B) boys will start with high expectations because of last years experience in playing league football, we will look forward to this season with the existing lads and some new players bringing strength to the team to play in the Garforth Junior League division 4.
This year team manager Chris Berriman will be aided with Andy Locker on the coaching side, and with Phil Swales taking the refereeing position.
The lads have all shown over the previous years that their playing skills have much improved, and this has resulted in a decision to take part in league and cup football this year. Any one else who wishes to join the lads will be much welcomed to enhance the team.

Well what can we say ??? After the back end of last year when the team started to play some good football together, then came the new year break which put the lads into sleep mode, they finally woke up today with the best game they have played all season. They all went out with the attitude that they could if they tried actually play football as a team and pass the ball around the pitch without having to run so far ‘AT Last’. Captain Dylan won the toss and opted to play up hill and into the wind, with some good communication they kept the ball under the wind and pushed forward every time, catching the Tingley lads off side time after time. 15 minutes went by with no team dominating the game and it was end to end play for both teams until eventually Tingley had a fantastic shot on Goal where Tom Chant had no chance of saving giving Tingley the lead, this was the only goal in the first half as Garforth kept them back and pushed them out catching them off side again.
The second half was the ultimate as Garforth now had the advantage of the light wind and with the ball over the top gave the first goal to Eddy. Everyone else on the pitch stopped for a second to realize the game was drawn at this stage and YES they could do this again and actually win. Our defense was unstoppable, whenever Tingley broke the half way there he was again ‘Alex Durrance’ with more pass then a steam train tracking down their player and stopping the onslaught. It was really end to end stuff which brought Garforth’s second goal from a chase down the left side from Danny and a brilliant cross only to see Lewis on the end of it with his header in the back of their goal. ‘HANG ON’ yes we were in the lead and this was not going to be the only lead we had, again MAN OF THE MATCH Danny Locker had the ball on his left foot, this time he was brought down inside their box to give him a penalty which they had absolutely no chance of stopping, yes this was 3-1. With around 10 minuet’s to go you could see the anxiety on Chris and Andy’s face willing the ref to call an end to it, but this was not enough for the lads as again Danny with a corner curled the ball hitting the cross bar and dropping into their goal ending the game with a 4-1 win.
The game was over and all the lads took pride in their long awaited win, everyone made a contribution and let’s hope this is the winning way that they will take on with them as they meet Tingley again next week at their ground.

Glen Juniors U13 : 4
06-12-09 league
Sunday morning and it has been raining all night, no one would know if the game would be on or off, the lads are ready for a fight against Glen Juniors and will give it their best !!! Then just before kick off the sun came out, both teams are eager for a rematch of the close game they had both played only 3 weeks previous which should have been a draw.
This match report could be one of the longest ever if we were to describe everything that happened as both teams were outstanding and some fantastic play was witnessed from the parents. The supporters could not believe they were watching a free game of two sides that wanted the victory as bad. Glen Juniors made the first break and went 1-0 up after about 10 min’s, then another 20 min’s in gave them a 2-0 lead, but Garforth was not going to lie down with some cross field passing which created their first goal and then quickly followed with another scramble in the Glen Juniors goal mouth giving Garforth their second goal. Just before the half time whistle Glen broke again taking the half time lead at 3-2.
Some well disserved water and a chat from the coach’s at half time sent Garforth back out believing they could take this game back which they did within 8 min’s bringing the score back level. The play was from end to end and both sides wanted the win, again Glen made the lead with a cracking goal but Garforth wanted their chance of the game and brought it level again with about 10 min’s to go. The referees whistle was looming and both managers were pacing up and down either wanting the win or wanting the whistle to make sure their team would not loose. Finally after a further 10 min’s of agonizing end to end play the whistle blew which was a pleasure as both sides played as well as each other and no one team would deserve to either win or loose, thus the final score of 4-4 which was a fair result.
Well done lads!!!

Garforth Rangers B U13 : 2
Middleton Park U13 : 2
15-11-09 league
The sun was shinning, the pitch was in excellent condition and the lads were ready for a good game of football this Sunday morning, Rangers were to face their old rivals Middleton Park where in the past years has always been a competitive game. From the kick-off Garforth set the pace and direction of the game playing up the hill, they set up attack after attack which was a positive start. The defence made up of Elliot, Josh Swales, Alex Durrance and Man of the Match Alex Simpson came under some severe attack from Middleton, but every time they kept their strong position and cleared the ball every time down the field where the mid fielders made up from Danny, Matty, Dylan and Eddy would spread the ball wide and fire it back into the Middleton half, where Josh Berriman and Jamie were waiting to strike at goal.
Some early injury’s meant Garforth was constantly changing their only sub Tom on and off and changing the side to keep the defence strong. Middleton were not going to lie down without a fight and with the run of the pitch downhill they eventually broke our defence to take the lead 1-0. Some intense play from both sides and determination resulted in a penalty kick for Middleton as a hand ball inside Garforth’s area gave them the opportunity, but Keeper Tom Chant stood tall and with a save that England would have been proud off kept the score to a minimum. As quick as this penalty was saved at the Garforth end, the lads broke free and with a sliding tackle from the Middleton defence on Dylan witnessed another penalty this time for Garforth, again the Middleton keeper stood tall and pulled of a fantastic save to keep the score at half time 1-0.The start of the second half was a pleasure to watch as Garforth came out strong and using the downhill advantage kept the ball in the Middleton half, this was to prove that determination and constant pressure from Garforth would see the goal that was deserved as Danny fired with his strong left foot leaving the Middleton keeper wondering where the ball had gone.
Both sides were wanting the win and every player put into practice what they have been told during training, again Garforth and Middleton both made breaks to either end which eventually gave Middleton the chance to go back ahead from a well taken corner and a fumble in the area did see them hit the back of Garforth’s net. With the closing minutes looming Garforth was not going to lie down without a fight and made every effort possible to keep the pace up and strike back which again proved the determination as Tom Davies ended up on the end of the ball and hit the back of Middleton’s net making the final score 2-2 which was a very fair result for both sides as no team deserved to loose.
Well done lads!!!

Garforth Rangers B U13 : 3
North East Leeds U13 : 1
13-09-09 League
From the kick-off Garforth set the pace and direction of the game, with a good wind behind them but playing up the hill they set up attack after attack which was a positive start. The defence made up of Elliot, Josh Swales, Alex and Man of the Match Tom Chant came under some severe attack from North East Leeds, but every time they kept their strong position and cleared the ball every time down the field where the mid fielders made up from Danny, Matty, Dylan and Tom made an opportunity and broke the offside trap creating a goal scoring chance for either Eddy, Josh Berriman or James. The game was always under control for the Garforth side and with Matty breaking the ball down the right hand side he created many chances with some perfect crosses where Eddy was racing towards the box and having shots at their goals. The North East Leeds keeper was kept busy and for once we watched Garforth turn and face the ball from their goal kicks and be the first to the ball and returning the shots back against their keeper where eventually it had to land in the back of the net from Danny who was always chasing down the left to create some opportunities and then breaking inside to finish it off.
North East Leeds did not lay down and they came back hard sending the long ball over the top and with a bit of confusion from our defence and a fumble and tumble the ball did roll over our line bringing the score level. Garforth was not going to allow this slip up to break their confidence and with determination and effort the second goal from Matty showed that Garforth was going to take the game. Unfortunately a volley from their attacker came really hard on the back of the neck for Alex which put him out of the game, meaning Garforth had to make the whole of the second half with no subs and no fresh legs, but the determination for their first league game and every man on the pitch wanted that win so badly the effort paid off again for Matty in the second half making the final result 3-1. As the final whistle was immanent the game was showing its 35 mins per half was a long time and a few wild kicks from both sides which required some strong words from the ref to calm it down, and for Chris and Andy on the side lines it felt like the clock had stopped. The one major achievement from the game was the result, but all of the lads must remember they played as a team with good communication and effort right until the end which showed that they can play as a team and should use today’s game as the bench mark for the rest of the season.
Well Done Lads !!!
