25/11/07 Challenge Cup Rnd 3

This game proved to be the most dramatic so far this season with two very good teams both playing some excellent football. The game started well and Ashley Battensby making a couple of good saves early on as Wortley pushed on. Rangers had a couple of half chances before a nice move from Jordan Keighley to Matthew Ellis who crossed for Matthew Marshall who headed just wide.

Both sides had a couple of chances but some great defending from Rangers especially from Daniel O'Toole with good support from Jack Stoker and Bradley Bennet the game was very tight. Finally Wortley broke and made it 1 - 0. Conor Dent got injured and had to be replaced by Harry Snaddon and the half time whistle blew.

The second half began and it was not long before Wortley made it two and the game looked over, however the tremendous spirit and fight that Rangers have this season started to tell as they beagan to press the opposition and with Daniel Alcock running the left wing and Ryan Rowley winning the battle in midfield Rangers pulled a goal back from their captain Rowley with a cracking shot from outside the box.

George Caslake soon had the game level with another terrific shot.

The final whistle blew so it went into extra time and after some great defending from Daniel O'Toole slide tackling and Ashley Battensby pulling off a save from a free kick with his feet it was still level. Rangers got a corner and George Caslake powered a header in at last Rangers were in front.

Wortley still looked dangerous and Tyler Cheetham had to keep fighting hard at right back. Finally Rangers could breath easier when Ryan Rowley got his second and Rangers fourth.

At the end Rangers deserved the victory to move into the next round and have kept their unbeaten start to the season.

The goals came from Ryan Rowley 2 and George Caslake 2.

The Man of the Match was shared by Daniel O'Toole for some great defending and Ryan Rowley for his two good goals and how he kept the team going.

Well done boys

Leeds City Juniors : 1

Garforth Rangers : 8

G J L Challenge Cup rnd 2

Garforth were drawn away in the cup against a team that were unbeaten in the league.

The manager made a couple of changes Matthew Ellis went in goal and the usual keeper Ashley Battensby started on the right wing. The game began evenly but after only five minutes Rangers had to make changes as Ashley Battensby came off injured.

The Garforth defence of Ryan Rowley, Jack Stoker, Daniel O'Toole and Ryan Huggan looked organised .

Rangers began to pressurise the opposition and the midfield of George Caslake, Jordan Keighley, Bradley Bennett and Connor Dent began to spray the ball around and with Daniel Alcock sending in some exceptional crosses from the left wing Garforth were soon two goals to the good both scored by Matthew Marshall. At half time Rangers looked good at 2 - 0 up.

In the second half Carl Marshall made a couple of changes and Kyle Scott made his first appeance of the season. Rangers continued to dominate the game and two further goals put the tie beyond Leeds City Juniors. They pulled a goal back after the Rangers defence hesitated in clearing their lines. It didn't take Rangers long to get back in their stride and with some outstanding attacking moves they scored a further four goals. At full time Rangers completed a well deserved 8 - 1 win to move into the next round of the Challenge Cup.

The goals came from, Matthew Marshall 5 , Daniel Alcock 1, Connor Dent 1 and Jordan Keighley 1 .

The Man of the Match went to the Captain Ryan Rowley

for an excellent display in defence.
