Under 11B Season 2007/2008

Rangers U11B Squad 2007 -2008

The new season for the under 11 (B) boys will start with high expectations because of last years experience in playing league football, we will look forward to this season with the existing lads and four new players bringing strength to the team to play in the Garforth Junior League division C.

This year team manager Chris Berriman will be aided with Andy Locker on the coaching side, and with Andy Hutchinson taking the refereeing position.

The lads have all shown over the previous years that their playing skills have much improved, and this has resulted in a decision to take part in league and cup football this year. Any one else who wishes to join the lads will be much welcomed to enhance the team.

MATCH REPORTS

 Garforth Rangers U11 : 4

24-02-08 League

It was a wet and cold start to the Sunday morning as we arrived at Middleton for the game, even the parents were huddled together sharing the umbrellas to keep away the driving rain. As the whistle blew to start the clouds parted and a ray of light beamed on to the Garforth players and gave them the boost they needed to play the best game that they have performed all year. Within 5 minutes Garforth broke the Middleton defense to see Matty launce the ball in to the back of their net, the delight on all the lads faces showed that this was going to be a game that they would enjoy. It was a pleasure to watch as the whole team made the game with the back four defenders all talking and pushing out together to make the Middleton attackers off side at least half a dozen times in each half, the midfielders worker the ball by passing around their players, and our lads up front were constantly in line with their defense and with that burst of speed breaking the line to have a shot at their goals. The second goal came from a perfect combination of passing down the left side and a cross from Callum to give Keiron a tap in to the net. Middleton had a good keeper that kept out several shots, but the danger for Garforth was that he had such a powerful kick from his hands and with one bounce the ball was inside Garforths box and giving them the opportunity to strike at Sam who made some fantastic saves to keep the ball out of the net, again and again this attack from Middletons keeper eventually gave the final tap needed to make the score at half time 1 – 2. The second half started just like the first with Garforth determined to take the game and playing as a team, this time it was George down the left and crossing the ball for Callum to tap in. With quick succession the next goal came from Matty with a powerful shot which the Middleton keeper had no chance of saving, but again the Middleton lads came back with the long ball over the top which put Garforths defense under severe pressure to see Man of the Match Zak come from the shadows and make some hard and precise tackles to stop the attacks. Middleton did finally break the defense in the last five minutes to draw back another goal making the final score Middleton 2 Garforth 4. Well done lads !!!!

Old Modernains U11 : 3

09-12-07 League

This game has too much to say about it on a report for the web site, the only thing was to be there as see it for your selves. It was a game of two even sides both determined to show how well they have developed this season, and the hunger for the win made the spectators belly rumble. First blood was to Garforth in the very early minuits which compiled of all the lads on the pitch passing the ball between them and around Old Modernains players making them look like statues and ending up in the back of their net. Both sets of players looked to their managers with that look of 'What happened there', this was the turning point for Old Modernains and they came back fighting, but went in at half time 2-1 down. The second half was as good as the first and as the game was coming to the end with the score level at 3-3, the look of fear on both managers faces told the story that they both wanted a draw and not the defeat that could have gone either way right up until the final whisle blew.

09-09-07 League

From the kick-off Garforth was a side with the bit between their teeth and straight away put together some fantastic passing and good long balls through to put Kirksall on the back foot wondering what had hit them. The sun was shinning and the boys went into the game showing strength in all the positions by been solid at the back and mastering the forward play through the midfield to give the strikers several attempts at the Kirkstall goal. Time after time the game shifted ends with both Garforth and Kirkstall mounting attacks and making the goal keepers work hard to keep the ball from hitting the back of the net, but eventually Garforth was the first team to break the mould and with a massive attack they slotted the ball past the Kirkstall keeper to open the score for Rangers 1-0. The team was made up of Sam Hughes in goals and a 4-4-2 format with Ben, Pablo, Josh and Zak holding the defense and Calum, Haaris, Mathew and Kieran making up the midfield and with James and Lewis opening the game up front, all the lads worked together to be a strong team and was complemented by Danny and Tom who came on in different positions as the game went on. Kirkstall was not going to lie down and take the constant attacks from Garforth without giving back as much as they received which resulted in them leveling the score after a massive attack from all but one of their players been inside the Garforth box and causing a mistake to allow their much deserved goal, this lifted the heads of Kirkstall and they constantly tried the same approach time after time eventually giving them their second goal to go in at half time with a 2-1 lead. With 30 mins football under their belt Garforth sat around the team manager Chris taking on as much water as possible and with some words of encouragement that they have showed that they can take this game they came out in the second half with heads held high and started the onslaught again. Time was ticking by and as they entered the last 10 mins to go the constant effort from all of the players saw Man of the Match Lewis Spence shoot from the edge of the box and straight past their goal keeper to level the score 2-2. From then on both teams entered in to the fact that this game would end as a draw and both played as a defensive team by bringing back the midfielders into their own half and so it was ended with all the spectators saying what a fantastic game of football it was and the result of a draw was the correct score line.
