Selby & District League season 2011/12

The team are currently sponsored by Brackenbury Clark Ltd
The team playing in the Selby and District league are now currently in their fourth season with many of the players being with the team from it’s formation in the 2006/2007 season when Garforth Rangers welcomed the introduction of open age football into the club. Managed and coached by Ian Ingle, Graham Harding and Michael Bacon, the team play in the Selby and District Football League Division 1. The Squad is made up of players from Garforth & surrounding areas, playing their home games at Allerton Bywater on Saturday afternoon. The players have signed up to pay self imposed fines based around discipline of the team (ie dirty boots and being late). These fines are donated to cancer research at the end of each season. Whilst we try not to fall short of the rules, it is for a good cause and the total for the last two seasons has been £75.00.

Another Game, Another Win!
Saturday 16.10.10
Knottingley 1 V Garforth Rangers 3
Garforth Rangers started brightly and were rewarded (or so they thought) with a goal through Gavin O’Laughlin in the first 15 minutes. The referee blew his whistle, only to change his mind following the calls from Knottingley that the ball had not crossed the line. Rangers continued to push forward and it was against the run of play that Knottingley were the first team to score, leaving the field at half time with a 1-0 lead. The second half saw Rangers totally dominate the game and was rewarded with a goal from Chris Reynolds five minutes into the second half. Spurred on by the goal, Chris Reynolds scored a second shortly after and whilst Rangers were enjoying all the run of play, Ellis Horner coolly headed in Rangers’ third. Knottingley never gave up the challenge but with good defensive work from Andy Barnes, Steff Szymanski, Steve Blair and Ellis Horner, it meant that keeper Fran Linscombe had very little to do in the Rangers goal.

The Winning Continues!
Saturday 2.10.10
Pontefract FC 0 V Garforth Rangers 2
Garforth Rangers totally dominated this match from the start, but struggled from the outset to beat the Pontefract keeper or hit the ball into the back of the net. The defence of Adam Mortimer, Steve Blair, James Turner and Stef Szymanski worked hard to ensure that keeper Dan Riley had very little to do in the first half and with midfield of Zac Evans, Chris Ingle, Franz and Dale Swatman ensuring the forwards had plenty of service it was only a matter of time before Rangers went 1-0 up through Chris Ingle. The second half saw much of the same, with chances being missed or saved by the Pontefract keeper. The final ten minutes were a tester for the Rangers team as Pontefract received several free kicks just outside the goal area and keeper Dan Riley was called upon to make several match winning saves. The final seconds of the match saw Rangers successfully defend yet another corner and Chris Ingle bring the ball out of defence to fire a shot from the half way line into the empty Pontefract net. An excellent start to the league cup

Garforth Rangers Open Age Team Take 6 Points From Ferrybridge!
Saturday 11.9.10
Garforth Rangers 2 V Ferrybridge 1
Garforth Rangers once again showed their total commitment and domination of this return match against a strong Ferrybridge team. Ferrybridge is the one team Rangers have never taken points from during the last two seasons and to take 6 points from them in their first two matches of the season is an excellent achievement. Both teams started the match with determination and despite Rangers missing a few chances in front of goal, Rangers were the better team and it was Steve Blair who was the first to score with a volley into the back of the net. Ferrybridge determined not to loose face kept the Rangers defence of Nathan Turner, James Turner, Steve Blair and Adam Mortimer on their toes and whilst they came under pressure several times, they weathered the storm to leave the pitch 1-0 up at half time. Ferrybridge returned to the field with renewed determination and it was a deflection from the head of Steve Blair that provided Ferrybridge with their first goal of the season. The Rangers team were determined not to let this match run away from them and a Chris Ingle free kick saw Steve Blair once again head the ball into the back of the net. For the final 20 minutes Ferrybridge threw all they had at the home team and keeper Danny Riley was called upon to make a couple of match winning saves. Although there were not as many goals as last week, the team were delighted with the result and Steve Blair requested the match ball for scoring all three goals!

An Excellent Start to Season 2010/2011!
Saturday 4.9.10
Garforth Rangers 5 V Ferrybridge 0
Garforth Rangers made an excellent start to their season with a convincing win over a strong Ferrybridge side. For the past two season’s Rangers have always given Ferrybridge (the previous league leaders) a run for their money, but have never been able to come out on top. However Saturday showed just how well the Rangers team have progressed throughout the closed season and with a positive outset from the start there was no stopping them.
The match started with good end to end football with both teams having chances within the first five minutes, but it was Rangers who provided the first goal of the match through Michael Robinson. Rangers continued to apply the pressure and it was Chris Ingle who provided the second goal, when the Ferrybridge keeper parried the ball from a long throw into the back of his own net. Rangers missed a couple of good goal scoring opportunities just before the end of the first half and with the continued Ferrybridge pressure it was thanks to excellent defensive work from Nathan Turner, Steve Blair, James Turner and Adam Mortimer and acouple of excellent saves from keeper Danny Riley that Rangers left the field at half time with a 2-0 lead.
Ferrybridge started the second half with renewed determination, but were unable to brake through the Rangers defence and it was an excellent run from Dale Swatman that gave Zac Evans the chance to push the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net. Rangers continued to apply the pressure with two further goals from Gavin O’Laughlin and Dale Swatman. Chances were also missed with Chris Reynolds hitting the post twice and other balls going wide or being saved from Ferrybridge keeper. This was the excellent start to the season the team needed and this will hopefully continue to next weeks match, which is against Ferrybridge !
